Pennsylvania State Police today announced the filing of assault charges against Steven A. Seaforth, who was a state trooper for 17 years before retiring on Feb. 29.

According to court documents, Seaforth, 39, found his estranged wife, 33-year-old Desiree Seaforth, in her car in the driveway of his home on Lower Bailey Drive in Oliver Township, Perry County, about 3 a.m. on May 19, 2007. He grabbed her from the car, police said, and slammed her to the gravel driveway three times.

Steven Seaforth joined the state police in 1991 and spent a while in Harrisburg before his last assignment to the Newport barracks in Perry County, according to state police spokesman Jack Lewis. Prior to his retirement, he was placed on administrative duties after an Oct. 21 incident involving Desiree Seaforth, in which he was charged with harassment and she was charged with simple assault and harassment.
