SUNBURY — An alligator — 5- to 6-feet long — was living in the Sunbury city reservoir in Upper Augusta Township.
State police at Stonington were called at 11:30 a.m. today to deal with this situation after someone saw the animal swimming around in the water. Unfortunately, they had a difficult time getting any help. The state Fish and Boat Commission was contacted, but advised they would not be responding. Police then called some local animal handlers, but no one was available.
“Due to public safety, as well as a lack of handling or housing equipment, the animal was put down,” state police said in a news statement today.
