Pennsylvania’s top-paid state employees are managing the retirement fund for public school workers or leading higher education institutions.
An analysis by the Business Journal of salary data from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania found that the 25 highest-paid state employees collectively earn more than $7.88 million annually, or around $315,000 on average.
In addition to taxpayer dollars, some salaries are paid with federal funds, tolls or fees. Salaries listed do not include other forms of compensation like overtime, per PennWATCH.
Twenty-one of the 25 highest-paid state employees work in departments related to education. Of that group, 10 work for the System of Higher Education, nine for the Public School Employees’ Retirement System and two for Higher Education Assistance.
