Chicago Police Department FOX32 Chicago – Mayor Lori Lightfoot is considering a momentous change to Chicago police procedure: requiring officers to get a supervisor’s permission before…
“Be advised your permission to engage in a foot pursuit has been approved.”
“Be advised I lost sight of the suspect when he was over a hundred yards away and I would estimate, if the suspect kept running, he’s over a mile away by now. Be advised I’ll be out of service at lunch. Over.”
How dangerously out of touch with reality can you be and still be elected mayor of the third largest city in the United States of America?
“No one should die as a result of a foot chase,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot said.
No one should die because the mayor is a fool.
“We’re seeing more vehicles flee from police officers because word has gotten out that they’re probably not going to get permission to chase you,”Alderman Brian Hopkins said.
Know who really is likely to flee? Someone driving a stolen car wanted for murder.
“I’m sure the officers themselves would agree with me. The more guidance we can give them, the more comfortable they’ll feel when they have to make these high-stakes decisions in the blink of an eye,” Hopkins said.
No. Officers who are chasing armed suspects down a dark alley would feel more comfortable, if they knew they were not going to be castigated by cowardly impetuous ignorant politicians and a corrupt media whenever they believe what happened at the end of the alley can be used to further their agendas.
Why don’t these politicians ever go on ride-alongs anymore? They constantly assert they are more knowledgeable in policing than the police in how to handle spit second high-risk encounters? Shut your trap, put a body cam on and go show everyone how’s it’s done.
