On November 27th, Black Lives Matter (BLM) used their official Twitter account to showcase how the group has been “drawing” connections between “white-supremacist-capitalism” and “police violence” in an attempt to expose the “truth” about Christmas.
The post stated that for seven years, BLM has been using their #BlackXmas campaign to encourage people to build black, buy black, and bank black.
An article in the Los Angeles Sentinel, written by Melina Abdullah, the co-founder of BLM-Los Angeles, states that this holiday season is a time to “assess the battles that we face and the war to be won.” Abdullah wrote:
“For the last seven years, Black Lives Matter has been challenging people to ‘dream of a black xmas,’ to intentionally use our resources: #buildblack (invest in black-led, black-serving organizations), #buyblack (spend exclusively with black-owned businesses from black Friday through New Year), and #bankblack (move our money from white corporate banks to black-owned ones).”
