On Monday morning, Jeff Follmer, president of the largest police union in Cleveland, Ohio, held up a picture of Kareem Hinton, a Black activist from the city. His T-shirt read: “No tears for dead cops.”

“This is one of the petitioners that is for this campaign,” Follmer, who is white, told the cameras.

Cleveland off-duty cop killed in apparent New Year’s Eve carjacking

A 25-year-old off-duty cop was shot and killed in an apparent carjacking in Cleveland, Ohio on New Year’s Eve, police said.

The Cleveland Police Department named Officer Shane Bartek, who joined the force in August 2019, as the victim.

By Saturday morning, two suspects — a 28-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman — were in custody, Fox 8 News reported. Both have long rap sheets for theft, robbery and burglary, according to reports.

Cops said the male suspect was carrying a gun as he approached Bartek in an apartment building parking lot in southwest Cleveland around 6 p.m. Friday. After a struggle, Bartek was shot twice, and the attacker fled in the officer’s vehicle.

In Los Angeles, blacks commit 44 percent of all violent crime but make up 9 percent of the population. In St. Louis, blacks are less than a third of the population but commit 90 percent of all homicides. In New York City, blacks commit about three quarters of all shootings although they’re 23 percent of the population.

“We need to be courageous and come up with alternative explanations that are difficult to articulate but they must be said,” McDonald told Tucker.

The gathering was dubbed the “Smash White Capitalism and Grab Justice” protest, with BLM LA stating on their Instagram page: “It’s a different kind of ‘smash and grab!'”

“SMASH white capitalism; GRAB justice! Meet us in Beverly Hills for sign-making, justice carolling, dancing, and beloved community. Bring your family, friends, comrades, singing voices, dancing/marching shoes, Santa hats, revolutionary holiday spirit, and freedom dreams,” the post stated.

The protest came as part of BLM’s “Black Xmas” celebration, where organizers urge people to shop at only black businesses during the holidays.

“We know white capitalism utilizes police violence to steal the lives of our people so that they can make a profit. So every year we celebrate Black Xmas to disrupt white supremacist patriarchal heteronormative capitalism,” Abdullah said.
