Five Phoenix police officers were injured, one of them critically, and a woman was seriously wounded during a five-hour-long armed standoff early Friday, which involved a baby (pictured in a man’s arms) that was placed in harm’s way. Police were called to the home on Elwood Street after 2am on Friday for a report of a shooting, and the first officer to approach the front door was shot and critically wounded. Later, a man came out and placed a baby on the doormat, after which he was detained and handcuffed. That man’s role in the incident is still unclear. When a large group of police officers approached the infant to carry it to safety, a gunman inside the house opened fire, injuring four of them and sending the rest running for cover. One wounded officer was seen being helped by two colleagues on the scene. The situation was resolved at around 7am, after police deployed a flash bang, sending plumes of smoke into the sky. When police finally entered the house, they found the gunman dead inside.
