The knee-jerk presumption of a civil-rights violation is explainable solely because these five alleged killers are police — or, at least, were police at the time of the killing. The profession of policing, of serving and protecting the communities in which the cops themselves live, is now stigmatized as racist. The stigma is so indelible that it makes no difference that the cops in question are all — every one of them — of the same race as the victim.

Memphis has a majority-black police department. Its chief, Cerelyn J. Davis, is a black woman and mother who has been president of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives.

If you can’t figure out how five black officers might have killed a young black man out of racial animus against young black men, welcome to the club.

This first sentence of the New York Times’ coverage is textbook promotion of the hidebound narrative sprung from the progressive obsession with race: “Five fired Memphis police officers have been charged with murder in the death of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man hospitalized after a traffic stop early this month.”

The Department of Justice will fund the salaries of 50 Memphis Police Department officers, as part of the Community Oriented Policing Services hiring program known as COPS.

The Memphis police department is one of nearly 600 law enforcement agencies set to receive a cumulative $400 million from the federal government, the office of U.S. Attorney for Western Tennessee, D. Michael Dunavant, announced Tuesday. 

The COPS funding will put around 2,700 new officers on the street and in schools across the U.S. — as protests stoked by police violence continue to unfold, with the support of the majority of Americans, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The Visa Waiver Program and Its National Security Consequences

The… hostage crisis at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas is yet another reminder that the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) remains one of our greatest national security vulnerabilities.

The terrorist who carried out the attack, Malik Faisal Akram, had an extensive criminal record and was previously investigated by MI5, the British intelligence service, for possible jihadi radicalization. Yet he did not appear on any U.S. terror watch lists and appears to have sailed right through the lax VWP.

As the 9/11 Commission wrote back in 2004: “It is perhaps obvious to state that terrorists cannot plan and carry out attacks in the United States if they are unable to enter the country … Indeed, even after 19 hijackers demonstrated the relative ease of obtaining a U.S. visa and gaining admission into the United States, border security still is not considered a cornerstone of national security policy.”

Artur Samarin hit the headlines in 2016 after he was exposed as living under fake name ‘Asher Potts’, and arrested for attempting to fraudulently acquire a US passport and having sex with a minor, 15.

He was 19 and a sophomore at his local university in Ukraine, when he flew to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as part of the school’s three-month exchange program.

Frustrated and with the clock ticking down to when his visa would expire, it was around this time he met Stephayne McClure-Potts and Michael Potts; a childless couple who he developed a friendship with.

The Potts would adopt him on the condition he changed his age from 19 to pretend to be 14, both to allow himself to be adopted, but his new ‘parents’ would also get a payout from the Social Security Administration and attendant tax benefits.

Ukrainian man, 23, pleads guilty to Pa. high school fraud, sex charges

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A 23-year-old Ukrainian man accused of faking his name and age while attending a Pennsylvania high school and having sex with an underage girl pleaded guilty Monday.

Artur Samarin entered the plea to a number of fraud and sex charges, which carry penalties of up to 40 years in prison and $90,000 in fines.
