Suspect found 12 hours after Temple University shooting

Authorities said the 18-year-old deliberately and fatally shot Officer Fitzgerald after a short pursuit and struggle near Temple University’s campus.

Pfeffer stood over the officer and shot him several more times in the head while he was on the ground.

WPVI is told most of the incident was captured on surveillance video.

Wolf, a Democrat, imposed his moratorium on executions while waiting for a study commissioned by the state Senate. That study took seven years. The report, issued in 2018, recommended several changes to ensure the death penalty would be used fairly.

Shapiro, a Democrat, said he will not sign death warrants as governor. Instead, he will grant reprieves.
