40 restaurants ordered to close for defying Gov. Wolf’s indoor dining ban

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WJAC, CBS 21) —Pennsylvania officials say 40 restaurants were ordered to close for defying the Wolf administration’s ban of indoor dining.
Gov. Tom Wolf is prohibiting dine-in services at bars and restaurants until Jan. 4 in an effort to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The Department of Agriculture released data related to those enforcement efforts Tuesday.
Officials say the numbers include actions taken during routine food safety inspections and inspections prompted by consumer complaints.
Between Dec. 14 and Dec. 20, 493 inspections were performed and 89 of those were complaint-driven, according to the Department of Agriculture.
The department issued 180 written warnings to restaurants that were violating the dine-in prohibition, and of those, officials say 40 restaurants were closed by order after they were confirmed to be open for dine-in service and refused to comply with the order.
According to the data, six local restaurants were ordered to close, however the names of the restaurants were not immediately available.
The Department of Agriculture says COVID-19-related closed by order notices were issued to two restaurants in Bedford County, one restaurant in Blair County, one restaurant in Centre County, one restaurant in Clearfield County and one restaurant in Somerset County.
